Soloist in WESENDONCK LIEDER
Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana
“Jamie Barton’s debut in Valencia with the Wagnerian Wesendonck Lieder was a real revelation. She only needed a few phrases from the first song to captivate us with her beautiful instrument, and the last two songs delivered the absolute height of vocal and expressive brilliance. She is a mezzo-soprano with contralto darkness and a substantial breadth in her middle voice who, despite having an instrument with great presence and meaty low notes, is at the same time able to maintain exemplary control of her upper range in both forte and piano dynamics. She never has to modify the vocal line, thereby achieving natural control of the dynamics, giving both coherence and a sense of her skill. Thus, we were able to hear all kinds of nuance and purely Wagnerian phrasing. This was an undeniable success and we hope that she will return to Valencia and the stage at Les Arts.”

“In the Wagner, the excellent performance by Jamie Barton was not only superb vocally, but also in the dynamic nuances. At the end of 'Täume', Barton, the conductor and orchestra achieved the most intimate and delicate moment of the concert. 'Patética' was characterized by clarity and attention to detail, and the 'cantabile' articulation in the andante of the finale stood out.”
